Should You Exercise?

I used to look for reasons to avoid going to the gym or doing anything that would make me sweat. Bad reasons and poor excuses are the same thing.
I certainly do not consider myself a fitness freak but I understand the multitude of health benefits received from a regular routine of exercise.
So instead of saying I don't have the time or energy, let us look at reasons why you should make exercise a part of your life.
Our health is the most important thing that we all have.

Exercise builds up and improves circulation of our white blood cells, which we need to fend off harmful bacteria that causes us to get sick.
We all get sick occasionally but a strong, healthy body will recover from illness faster. Regular exercise also significantly cuts the risk of heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and other chronic health conditions.

We all want to look and feel good.

Everyone knows that a healthy diet and regular exercise is the best way to lose weight and get in shape. I was always well aware that doing resistance exercises like free weights or weight machines increases muscle mass. I was very happy to learn that muscle burns far more calories at rest than fat does, turning you into a calorie burning machine even while not working out.

You think you lack the energy for a good workout?

We all have days when we feel worn down and are thankful for the wonderful invention of the remote control because there is no way your weary legs are getting up to change that channel. Exercise can give you that get up and go feeling because it creates energy by delivering stores of oxygen and essential nutrients to your tissues. Physical activity also temporarily increases your metabolic rate and that will keep you feeling energized long after you workout.

Everyone wants to be happy. I do not know of anyone who gets out of bed wishing and hoping to have an unhappy day.
According to MayoClinic.com working out stimulates brain chemicals that induce relaxation and happiness.

Physical activity does not only have to happen at the gym. I have found that a brisk walk for even half an hour relaxes my body and my nerves.
Try some jumping jacks when you have a few minutes to elevate your mood. Your future self will thank you.
